Why I Started My Hypnotherapy Practice
Around the world looking for answers to IBS and finding relief in the UK through hypnotherapy
A Life-Changing Conversation in Sri Lanka
For years, I lived with gut problems. I had many symptoms that disrupted my daily life, bloating, and discomfort to name a couple. I later learned it was Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), a condition that affects the gut and can be incredibly difficult to manage.
While travelling through Asia, I saw doctors in several countries. They each had different theories and I was prescribed all kinds of medications, but nothing gave me lasting relief.
Then one day, whilst in Sri Lanka, I met a kind gastroenterologist who quietly changed everything. With a warm smile he said:
“Your gut is very sensitive to your mood.”
He explained that the gut is often called our second brain. It has its own nervous system, called the enteric nervous system which communicates constantly with the brain, via the gut-brain axis. And how emotions and digestive symptoms are often deeply linked.
That conversation planted a seed that eventually changed everything.
Back in the UK: Still Searching for Relief
Upon my return to the UK, I tried changing my diet, continued regular exercise, took supplements and reduced stress. But the symptoms continued and I realised that I needed deeper, something more tailored to me.
Eventually, I came across a new approach: Hypnotherapy for gut health and IBS.
It was effective and it worked when nothing else had.
That’s when I decided to explore hypnotherapy in more depth and become a practitioner.
Why I Do What I Do
I eventually discovered style of hypnotherapy, grounded in neuroscience, that did not need to go into my past and instead focused on the future. This style of hypnotherapy aligned perfectly with what the Sri Lankan doctor had explained. I learned how it helps reduce anxiety and rewire the brain’s response to stress, often the very trigger for IBS flare-ups.
Whilst training as a practitioner, I saw it’s potential not just for IBS, but for anxiety, stress, burnout and emotional overwhelm.
Now I help others find their own path to relief, resilience and calm.
